The double bass, also known as the contrabass, is the largest and lowest-pitched member of the violin family. It features four strings, traditionally tuned to E, A, D, and G, with the pitches an octave lower than the cello. The double bass is played with a bow or by plucking the strings with the fingers, known as pizzicato.
